Accounting firm in the canton of Neuchâtel
An industrial and strongly export-driven canton, which moves the questions towards VAT and the treatment of cross-border transactions.
Exports, VAT and cross-border staff
Transactions with other countries
A supply or a service to a client established abroad is not treated as a domestic transaction, and the right to deduct input VAT depends on it. It is the most frequent question a Neuchâtel company asks.
Staff living in France
The canton employs a workforce resident in France. The applicable tax regime depends on the agreement, and it differs from the one that applies in the Geneva basin.
Foreign parent companies
A share of the industry here is owned abroad. That raises questions of corporate residence, transfer pricing and where management actually sits, which a Swiss-owned SME does not face.
Neuchâtel's calendar and administration
In the canton of Neuchâtel, tax matters are handled by the Cantonal Tax Office (SCCO), in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Filing deadlines and extension arrangements follow the canton's own practice.
The filing deadline is shown on the return. An extension requested before that deadline is free of charge until 30 April, then costs CHF 25 until 30 June and CHF 40 beyond. No extension can be granted beyond 31 October.
To challenge a tax assessment, a written and signed objection must be sent to the Tax Office within 30 days of its notification.
The withholding tax tariffs comprise tariffs A, B, C, H and G, with a single tariff per code. Church tax is not included: the church contribution is voluntary and billed separately.
