Accounting firm in the canton of Valais

A bilingual canton, with a seasonality of employment that few others experience to the same degree.

01

A seasonal economy, a bilingual administration

  1. Headcounts that change with the seasons

Tourism, hotels, restaurants, agriculture: fixed-term contracts, short permits, arrivals and departures concentrated into a few weeks. Staff administration here is of a different nature from that of a services company.

    Payroll

  2. Foreign seasonal workers

Permits, withholding tax over partial periods, short-term affiliations: each element is simple, but together, across a changing headcount, they are not.

    HR administration

  3. French or German, depending on the region

The administration works in French and in German depending on the region. For a company in Upper Valais, or for a Lower Valais company employing staff there, this changes the forms and the correspondence, and adds a third language for an English-speaking manager.

  4. Deadlines and tariffs in Valais

In Valais, tax matters are handled by the Cantonal Tax Office (SCC). For the returns concerned, the ordinary filing deadline is 31 March.

An extension to 31 July can be obtained by paying the CHF 20 fee before 31 March, using the payment slip provided for that purpose. The deadline is 31 October for the self-employed and for returns filed through an accounting firm, and can run to 31 December in certain specific cases.

To challenge a tax assessment, a written objection must be filed within 30 days of its notification.
